たまたまインドカレー屋さんでランチを食べていたら、 店内で岡本太郎の「太陽の塔」 と 「明日の神話」 について番組がやっていました。
人類の進歩がテーマの万博にたいして、岡本太郎は人間なんてちっとも進歩していないというようなことを言っていました。これまで岡本太郎の漠然としたイメージだけで作品と向かい合うことがありませんでしたが、太陽の塔のプロジェクトの会議で真剣な顔で語る岡本太郎の言葉が心に響きました。
その二日後に急いで大阪に行って万博公園にドーンとそびえ立つ太陽の塔をまえに、こういうものだったのかと、今さら ながら岡本太郎の生命のスケールの大きさを知りました。

When I was having lunch at an Indian curry restaurant, I came across Taro Okamoto on a TV program, in which he talked about Tower of the Sun and Myth of Tomorrow.
The theme of the Expo was the progress of mankind, but Taro Okamoto said human beings have not progressed at all.
I had a vague image of Taro Okamoto, but had never faced his works before. Yet, his words resonated with me as he spoke earnestly at a meeting for Tower of the Sun project.
Two days later, I rushed to Osaka to see Tower of the Sun. When I stood in front of the majestic tower, it made sense. I was struck by how big Taro Okamoto’s life was.
