先日、練馬区立美術館で開催している生誕110年香月泰男展を見に行ってきました。香月泰男はシベリア抑留の経験を描いた シベリア・シリーズが有名ですが、不勉強にして香月泰男の絵の実物を見るのは初めてでした。
その絵を前に、これほどしっかりとした絵があるのかと、ただただ目を奪われました。四角い画面からぶわあっと現れてくるもの があって、けれども言葉も発せずに静かにただ存在し残された絵に、画家のするべき仕事というのはこういうものかと思わされました。
この展覧会に寄せた野見山暁治先生が香月さんとの思い出を語る動画があります。101 歳の野見山先生がしっかりと語る香月さん の思い出はユーモアがあって、先輩たちの矜持を見る気がします。

I went to the exhibition “Commemoration of the 110th anniversary of Kazuki Yasuo” at the Nerima Art Museum. Yasuo Kazuki is well known for “Siberian Series” which portraits his experience during the internment at Siberia. I’m ashamed of idleness, but it was the first time for me to see his works with my own eyes.
Standing in front of the painting, I solely got drawn to it. It was as solid as what I had ever seen. There was sorne -thing pouring out of the framed painting. It was left and exists in tranquility, never uttering a word. It made me believe this is what an artist is supposed to do as a job.
On the occasion of this exhibition, Mr. Gyoji Nomiyama talks about memories about Kazuki Yasuo. Mr.Gyoji is now 101 year old, but clearly remembers the old days and talks about it with humor. I sensed their pride in that narrative.
