OKANOUE, Toshiko

Born in 1928 in Kochi Prefecture, Japan. OKANOUE made collages based on old magazines left behind by the Allied Forces in the 1950s. Rediscovered by photography critic KANEKO, Ryuichi, she had exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including solo exhibitions at the Museum of Art, Kochi in 2018 and the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum in 2019. The world Okanoue presented has increasingly attracted attention: she now has an international reputation and is a major influence on contemporary artists.
