元号が令和に変わった。
令和には『麗しき平和をもつ日本』という意味が込められているそうです。
他にも「令」は心の中に響いてくる音楽、音、声。
和はハーモニー、更には｢権力者の横暴を許せないし、忘れることもできない」こうした解釈もあるそうです。
いづれにせよ、日本は自由な国家です。
国民は令和の解釈を自由に楽しめば良いのだと思います。
さて、一見価値のないものに新たな価値を見いだす役割もアートにはあると思うのです。

元号が変わっても日本の貨幣は変わりませんが、貨幣そのものの価値はこの平成の31年間で大きく変わったように思います。
例えば、日本の通貨の最小単位である「一円」は、今や落ちていても誰も拾わない貨幣のようです。
そこで令和元年度の貨幣製造枚数を調べてみると、一円は１０００枚　金額にして１０００円
ま、作らなくても困らないが、とりあえず、そんな愛おしい生産枚数です。
因みに、銀行で一円を１０００枚両替して欲しいというと５００枚ごとに５４０円の手数料を取られます。

そこで私は、新しい令和の時代への幕開けとしてこんな作品を制作してみました。
平成31年間の歴代の首相たちと一円の眼差しを
｢平成の人｣
そして私は底辺でお互いを助け合っている人を
｢一円の人｣と呼びます。

“The one yen of this generation”

Japan has officially entered a new imperial era of “Reiwa”.The intended meaning behind the name is “beautiful harmony”,
wishing and celebrating “a culture nurtured as people’s hearts are beautifully drawn together.”
But it is said that Rei(令)can also mean sound and voice; and Wa(和)can also mean “confronting and
speaking up against abuse of power by authority”.
Either way,Japan is a free country. I believe people can interpret and define the new name in their own way.

Just to change the topic a little,lately I’ve been thinking about art that has the ability to add a new value to something.
I think the value of money has changed over the years. For example,
I do not see anyone picking up that lonely 1 yen coin lying on the ground.
When I researched the coin production number for this year,
I found out that they produce one thousand 1 yen coins-just a ￥1000 worth. The number surprised me.

But one yen is important. One yen is part of our system. One yen is the sound,the voice,
and ultimately the glue that creates the harmony. It captures the sentiment of Reiwa.

So to commemorate the new year, I made a little art work with the prime ministers that we had in the 31 years of Heisei

And I call those who help each other at the bottom:”One yen person”
